Royal Challengers The Bengaluru Women’s Team has won their second Women’s Premier League title, defeating the Delhi Capitals in the final in a record-breaking fashion.

RCB-W took on DC-W in the final of WPL 2026. The Royal Challengers qualified directly for the final, finishing at the top of the league table. On the other hand, the Capitals defeated the Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator to qualify for their fourth consecutive final.

This match was played at the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium in Vadodara, Gujarat, and saw RCB win the toss and decide to bowl first on this batting-friendly pitch.

RCB-W Beat DC-W In Thrilling WPl 2026 Final

Delhi got off to a decent start to their inning. The opening pair of Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee made 49 runs in the powerplay together before Shafali was dismissed for 20 off 13. Lee got out soon after, in the eighth over, after a slow inning of 27 off 30.

Laura Wolvaardt came in at No. 3, after Verma’s wicket, and immediately picked the pace up. She, along with captain Jemimah Rodrigues, formed the core of this inning. The two batted for over eight overs together. By the time the skipper was out at the end of the 16th over for 57 off 37, the score was 148/3.

The Capitals needed to score some quick runs in the death overs, a responsibility taken up by Chinelle Henry, who was unbeaten at the end of the innings for 35 off 15. She, along with Wolvaardt, who made 44 off 25, took the Delhi Capitals past the 200-run mark, to 203/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

If RCB-W were to win this match, they would not only need to make the largest chase in the final of WPL and the IPL but also complete the largest chase in the history of this competition.

This chase did not start well, as opener Grace Harris was dismissed in the second over after making just nine runs.

However, the second-wicket partnership between Georgia Voll and captain Smriti Mandhana would very nearly take the Royal Challengers all the way through. The two batted together for about 15 overs and made 165 runs together.

While Smriti and Georgia batted together, it seemed that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women’s Team would quite easily chase down this otherwise mammoth target.

Georgia Voll got out in the 17th over for 79 off 54. At this point, the team score was 174/2. Richa Ghosh departed for cheap in the 18th over.

But when Smriti Mandhana’s wicket fell in the 19th over, after she played a captain’s knock of 87 off 41, it seemed like a turning point in the match. The 19th over, bowled by Chinelle Henry, saw her concede only eight runs and take a massive wicket. Before this over, RCB needed just 18 runs in two overs with an in-form Mandhana on strike.

In the 20th over, with two fresh batters, Radha Yadav and Nadine de Klerk, on strike, the Bengaluru-based team needed 10 runs to win.

Spinner Shree Charani bowled the ultimate over. On the first ball, Yadav took a single, and de Klerk did the same on the second ball.

With eight runs required in four deliveries, Radha Yadav hit a four, bringing the equation down to four off three.

The fourth ball of this over and the last ball of the match were a bit controversial. Charani bowled a good-length ball right into the wickets. Radha made some room and hit it towards extra-over for a boundary. Although when the batter was hitting the ball, the bails fell, prompting the question as to whether it was a hit wicket.

However, umpires concluded that it was the wicketkeeper, Lizelle Lee, who struck the stumps as the RCB players flooded the field in celebration of the victory.

This was RCB-W’s second-ever WPL title. They first won the title in 2024. For her brilliant knock, Smriti Mandhana was named the Player of the Match. Not only that, but Mandhana also won the Orange Cap for WPL 2026. She made 377 runs in nine matches with an average of 53.86 and a strike rate of 153.25.
