Delhi Capitals have brought Amit Mishra back into their setup, appointing the former India leg-spinner as their spin bowling coach ahead of the next IPL season.

Mishra spent several seasons with the franchise during his playing career. He now returns in a coaching role as Delhi Capitals continue to reshape their support staff.

The franchise has also added Sourav Ganguly as head coach, Yuvraj Singh as assistant coach and Chaminda Vaas as fast bowling coach. The appointments mark a major change in the team’s backroom setup.

Amit Mishra brings a wealth of IPL experience

Amit Mishra has played 162 IPL matches since making his debut in 2008. He spent 10 seasons with Delhi Daredevils, as the Capitals were known back then.

His last IPL appearance came in 2024. Across his career, he picked up 174 wickets, with best figures of 5/17.

He also owns a rare IPL record. Mishra is the only bowler to take three hat-tricks in the tournament. He achieved the feat for Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

His first came for Delhi Daredevils in 2008. He added another for Deccan Chargers in 2011 before completing the set with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013.

DC’s young spinners could benefit

Mishra’s appointment could prove valuable for Delhi’s spin department. His experience across different IPL teams gives him plenty to draw on when working with the franchise’s bowlers.

Zeeshan Ansari is among those who could benefit from the move. The leg-spinner has joined Delhi from Sunrisers Hyderabad in a trade deal that sent T Natarajan to the other franchise.

Vipraj Nigam and Rehan Ahmed could also gain from Mishra’s guidance if Delhi retain them for the upcoming season. His experience in reading batters, varying pace and setting up wickets could help the younger spinners develop their game.

Delhi continue to rebuild their coaching staff

Mishra’s arrival adds another former international cricketer to Delhi’s coaching group. The franchise has turned to experienced names as it prepares for the next IPL campaign.

Yuvraj Singh also brings a notable record in the tournament’s hat-trick list. He took two IPL hat-tricks in 2009, making him one of only two players to achieve the feat twice.
