Ollie Robinson is back on England’s central contract list after a productive summer on his return to action. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced its contracts for the 2026-27 season on Monday, October 12, with 30 players receiving central deals and nine earning development contracts.
Robinson, 32, last held a central contract in 2023. His return comes as England widen their contracted player pool ahead of a busy period across international cricket.
The overall group has grown to 39 players, compared with 30 across the central and development categories last season. The new list includes several first-time recipients and a number of players handed longer deals.
Seven players earn their first central contracts
Tom Banton, Sam Cook, Jordan Cox, Henry Crocombe, Emilio Gay, Matthew Fisher and Dan Lawrence have all secured central contracts for the first time.
Sonny Baker has been upgraded to a two-year deal. Cox and Crocombe have also signed contracts covering two years, while 11 players have agreements running until September 30, 2028.
The ECB’s contract system covers both Test and white-ball cricket. Selections take into account recent performances and the likelihood of players featuring across formats in the coming period.
Ben Stokes is absent from this year’s list after retiring from international cricket earlier this summer. The former England Test captain had been offered a two-year contract.
Six players receive development deals
England have also added six new names to their development contract group. James Coles, Mason Crane, Ben McKinney, Liam Patterson-White, Thomas Rew and Matthew Revis have received their first deals in this category.
Crane’s selection comes as he prepares to join an England squad for the first time in more than eight years. Rew, meanwhile, is the youngest player on the development list at 18.
The wicketkeeper-batter captained England’s Under-19 team to the final of the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year. His inclusion reflects England’s continued investment in young players who could feature at senior level in the future.
England make changes to coaching structure
The ECB has also confirmed appointments within its national coaching setup.
Mike Yardy will take charge as Elite National Batting Lead, while Richard Dawson has been named Elite National Spin Bowling Lead. Troy Cooley continues as Elite National Pace Bowling Lead after starting the role earlier this year.
England’s Test setup, led by head coach Stephen Fleming, will receive support from Dawson, Marcus Trescothick, James Foster and Eric Simons.
Brendon McCullum’s white-ball coaching group will include Sarah Taylor, Jeetan Patel and Tim Southee. Former England batter Kevin Pietersen will also contribute as a specialist mentor.
The coaching teams will be involved in England’s upcoming assignments, including the Test tour of South Africa and the white-ball trip to Australia.

Focus shifts to the upcoming tours
England’s expanded contract group gives the selectors a wider pool to work with across formats. Robinson’s return is one of the notable developments, while the first-time deals and development contracts offer opportunities for players pushing towards regular international cricket.
With tours of South Africa and Australia coming up, the focus now shifts to how England use their contracted players across the red-ball and white-ball sides.
