The Brisbane Heat has broken several records in their win against the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League 2025-26 today, chasing down a mammoth target of 258 runs.
Five-time champions the Scorchers took on the Heat at the Gabba in Brisbane today. The Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers game was Match 6 of the ongoing BBL season. While Perth won their opening game against the Sydney Sixers, the Heat were coming into this one after losing to the Melbourne Renegades.
Brisbane Heat Breaks Records Chasing Down 258
It was the Brisbane-based team that won the toss and decided to bowl first on this fine batting track. This decision immediately paid off as Perth opener Mitchell Marsh got out for cheap in the second over. But then, the carnage started.
The second-wicket partnership between Finn Allen and Cooper Connolly saw the two batters destroy the Heat bowling attack. By the time Connolly got out for 77 off 37 in the 12th over, the team score was already 150 runs.
The Scorchers never lifted their foot off the pedal. The incoming Aaron Hardie made 23 off 12, while Allen got out for 79 off 38. Captain Ashton Turner played a short but impactful inning of 12 off five, Laurie Evans made 16 runs in nine balls, and Nick Hobson scored 26 off 11.
In the end, the Perth Scorchers finished their 20 overs at a massive score of 257/6.
The Heat’s chase started in disastrous fashion, as in-form opener Colin Munro got out for a golden duck. However, the second-wicket partnership was about to turn the game.
Jack Wildermuth and Matt Renshaw batted for about 15 overs together and formed a 212-run partnership. By the time Renshaw got out in the 16th over, he had made 102 off 51, scoring a brilliant ton. This was the biggest partnership in BBL history.
Wildermuth, who was unbeaten at the end for 110 off 54, was helped by Max Bryant, who made 28 off 16 to finish this game. The Brisbane Heat won this match by eight wickets, with one ball to spare.
Apart from putting up the highest partnership in competition history, the Heat broke even more records; most notably, they chased down the highest score in BBL history, breaking the 230-run record previously held by the Adelaide Strikers. This match was also the one with the most runs scored in tournament history.
With this win, the Brisbane Heat has put the league on notice. It is also a signal that the Big Bash League 2025-26 will be a tournament where the batters are going to prosper.
