Cricket South Africa has revised the schedule for India Women’s upcoming tour, adding a three-match T20I series to what was originally a three-ODI and one-off Test assignment. The expanded tour, which now spans all three formats across three weeks in December, has been designed with one eye firmly on the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka in February.
The restructured schedule also shifts the Test match forward. The one-off Test at St. George’s Park in Gqeberha, originally slated to begin on December 20, will now open the tour on December 12. From there, the two sides move into the white-ball leg, starting with three ODIs across Paarl, Cape Town and Bloemfontein on December 16, 19 and 22 respectively.
The T20I series rounds off the tour over the festive period, with the opening fixture on Boxing Day at Willowmoore Park in Benoni. The final two matches follow on consecutive days, December 29 and 30, at NWC Oval in Potchefstroom.
CSA chief executive Pholetsi Moseki welcomed the addition of the T20Is, framing it as a deliberate preparation block for the Proteas Women ahead of a major ICC event. “We are delighted to confirm the revised schedule, with the addition of the T20 International series over the festive period, ensuring our Proteas Women have the best possible preparation ahead of the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy,” he said. “India remain one of the strongest teams in world cricket, and the opportunity to compete against them across all three formats will provide invaluable competition as we continue building towards another major ICC event.”
The context behind the scheduling decision is hard to ignore. India toured South Africa in April for a five-match T20I series and lost 4-1. They also fell to South Africa in the group stage of the T20 World Cup in Manchester before exiting the tournament, while South Africa went on to reach the semi-final before losing to England. The December series gives India an opportunity to reset that recent head-to-head record while sharpening their T20 credentials ahead of the Champions Trophy.
For both sides, seven matches across all three formats against quality opposition in the build-up to a global event represents exactly the kind of preparation window that teams at this level need. The full schedule is as follows.
